Nightwing #1 "Tim's Review"

Many people may well think this is a return to form for Dick Grayson after spending the last year or so as Batman, I personally enjoyed him in that role and would have liked to have seen some more done with him, but that's an argument for another time... But it is nice to see him back in his old guise, even if there has been a colour tweak!

So the book is written by Kyle Higgins, who wrote the Batman: Gates of Gotham mini series, and sees Dick coming to terms with his life now and resuming his role as Nightwing within the rather extended Bat-family.

Just as he thinks he has a handle on things, the old circus he used to perform with and where his parents were murdered, Haley's, rolls into Gotham, to which he is heard to remark:

"Just when I've set up my new life, my old one comes back, Well played Gotham."

Meanwhile across town, a man is seen to emerge from the port authority, he is immediately set upon by a couple of street thugs who he then proceeds to kill one and beat the living snot out of the other, then stalks away commenting:

"I always did like this city."

The rest of issue then follows Dick visiting old friends at the circus and a brief stint reliving his hey day as a trapeze performer.

Towards the end of the issue Dick is attacked by an unnamed assailant who, to be honest, looks like a knockoff Wolverine in a gimp suit, that might be a little unfair but seriously, check him out and see what you think!

I've always had a soft spot for the Nightwing character, apart from that original "disco" suit, ugh... And i was a little dubious when it was announced that Dick was going back to it, it felt like a kind of demotion to me

"Oh thanks for being Batman for me while I was away, but I'm back now and you can go back to whatever it was you were doing."

But after reading the first few issues I'm glad to be proven wrong, Dick is, and always will be Nightwing!

A genuinely enjoyable read and art that very much suits the dark aesthetic of Gotham city.
